Uzbekistan captain Eldor Shomurodov has been named the winner of the Best Group Stage Goal award at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prompt News Online reports.
The experienced forward earned the honour for his superb lob from a tight angle in Uzbekistan’s final Group A match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Atlanta on 27 June.
Although Uzbekistan bowed out at the group stage, Shomurodov’s spectacular strike stood out as one of the tournament’s finest moments, earning him the first individual award of the competition.
The 31-year-old topped the fan vote with 36 per cent, finishing ahead of Haiti’s Wilson Isidor, who garnered 26.5 per cent, while Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Kerim Alajbegovic placed third with 24.9 per cent.
FIFA also confirmed that fans will have further opportunities to vote for the best goal after the Round of 32, Round of 16, the combined quarter-finals and semi-finals, before a final vote is held at the conclusion of the tournament.
