Nigerian influencer Priscilla Ojo has explained why she publicly defended her mother, actress Iyabo Ojo, during the backlash that followed the release of her movie.
Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Priscilla said she chose to speak up because her mother is always the one standing up for others, but rarely receives the same support in return.
She added that many of the people her mother had supported in the past stayed silent during the controversy, which motivated her decision to defend her.
“I wanted to be the one to speak up for my mom when there was a b@cklash for her new movie. She’s always standing up for people, but when it was her turn, everyone was silent, so I didn’t care if people would drag me. I just didn’t want her to feel empty,” she said.
Priscilla also praised her mother for singlehandedly raising her and her brother without their father, noting that she never felt the absence of a father figure growing up because her mother fulfilled both roles effectively.
She further reacted to ongoing controversies surrounding her mother’s movie premiere, referencing a viral moment involving actresses Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham and Mercy Aigbe at the event.
