The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigerian referee Yemisi Akintoye as one of the match officials for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Prompt News Online reports.
Akintoye, who became a FIFA-accredited referee in 2021, secured her place on the officiating team after successfully passing CAF’s medical, fitness and technical assessments conducted ahead of the tournament.
The 2026 edition will mark her maiden appearance as a match official at Africa’s premier women’s football competition, a significant milestone in her refereeing career.
The WAFCON 2026 finals will be staged in Morocco from Sunday, July 26 to Sunday, August 16.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons head into the tournament as defending champions after claiming a record-extending 10th continental title at the last edition.
The four semi-finalists will represent Africa at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be hosted by Brazil.
