An Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has remanded a 34-year-old Togolese national, Biola Muhammed, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre over the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
The defendant, said to be a farm labourer, was arraigned on allegations linked to offences against a minor.
The prosecutor, Augustine Omheneimhen, told the court that the incident allegedly occurred on April 25, 2026, within the 32 Artillery Brigade area of Owena Barracks in Akure.
According to the prosecution, the matter contravenes provisions of the Violence Against Persons Law of Ondo State, 2021.
Omheneimhen informed the court that the prosecution would rely on statements obtained during investigation and a medical report from the 32 Brigade Medical Centre, Akure.
He urged the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The defendant, however, denied the allegations, maintaining that he neither knew the teenager nor her mother.
Counsel to the defendant, G.O. Bernard, appealed to the court to transfer the matter to the Magistrate’s Family Court.
