The Bayelsa State Police Command has paraded three university students in connection with the assault of Nancy Wilfred, a young woman whose humiliation in a viral video sparked nationwide outrage.
Nancy was beaten, stripped naked, stepped on, and filmed during the attack before the footage was circulated online.
One of the suspects, a 20-year-old identified as Daniel, admitted that the group carried out the assault while under the influence of alcohol. Another suspect, Blessing, expressed remorse, saying peer pressure and intoxication drove her actions.
“With my normal eyes, I wouldn’t have done what I did. I was high, and the peer pressure worsened it,” she said, recalling that she broke down in tears after the incident when the effects of alcohol wore off.
Blessing further disclosed that Nancy was lured to their residence on the pretext of retrieving missing clothes but was instead humiliated after being accused of using charms to attract men.
According to her, the confrontation escalated after one of the suspects, identified as Favour, incited her to join in the attack.
Police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fourth suspect still at large.
The Command assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated and handed over to the judiciary for prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, commended Governor Douye Diri, his wife, civil society groups, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) for their support in seeking justice for the victim.
