Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has clarified that his participation in political events does not imply affiliation with any political party.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Real Shareholders podcast, Terry G stated that he is an independent artist and only attends such events to perform, not to endorse any political agenda.

He addressed criticisms from fans who accused him of taking sides after he performed at political functions.
“As an artist, we are usually billed to perform. In the current economy, if you’re opportuned to even get a gig from a political party, you’re lucky. So, respect to the party,” he said.
“But as a musician, I’m just doing my job [performing], I’m an independent artist. I’m so independent. I only went to political events to perform. At least, fans should have judged me based on what I said there, but they are now judging me based on what I did.
“No, you don’t need to judge me for that. I went to do my job. If I had said people should vote for APC, that’s a different thing. I went to do my job just like my other colleagues. I don’t know why mine is different.”
Terry G’s remarks come in response to online backlash he received in 2023 after performing at President Bola Tinubu’s pre-inauguration concert held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Later that year, in November 2023, the singer publicly called out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over an alleged unpaid performance fee, claiming that certain individuals hijacked the money he was meant to receive for the show.
