Nigerian singer Fireboy DML has stated that the Ghanaian national football team, the Black Stars, is currently a better unit than Nigeria’s Super Eagles. While acknowledging the individual talents of the Super Eagles, he believes the Black Stars are more cohesive as a team.
In a recent appearance on the 90s Baby Show, Fireboy DML expressed his thoughts on the rivalry between the two teams. He said, “Right now, Ghana is a better team [than Nigeria’s Super Eagles]. Individually, we [Nigerians] are better. But as a team, Ghana is better.”
He further explained that despite the abundance of talent in Nigeria, the Super Eagles have struggled to form a unified team. “For some reason, we have not been able to combine the brilliance of each player to form a solid team. I think it will take time. We have a lot of talents but we have not been able to utilise them,” Fireboy noted.
The singer also pointed out the strength of Ghana’s midfield, singling out Thomas Partey as a key factor. He mentioned, “Unlike Ghana, we don’t have a good midfield. Thomas Partey alone, we don’t have a midfield to battle that. You saw how Partey handled Real Madrid during their Champions League clash with Arsenal. We don’t have that.”
Both teams are set to face off again at the 2025 Unity Cup in London next month, making the upcoming match a highly anticipated encounter.
