Petrol prices have risen at MRS and other filling stations in Abuja, with motorists facing fresh increases despite the Federal Government’s proposed reduction in pump prices at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited outlets.
A market survey conducted by Daily Post on Sunday showed that MRS filling stations, backed by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, increased their petrol price from N1,370 to N1,409 per litre, representing a N39 rise.
The new rate was observed at MRS outlets in Kubwa, Katampe, Gwarimpa and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Similarly, Ranoil and AA Rano raised their pump prices by N10 per litre, selling petrol at N1,410, compared with the previous rate of N1,400.
The increases come amid the Federal Government’s proposed petrol price discount, which the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, said would bring the price down to N1,350 per litre at NNPCL filling stations.
However, fuel marketers have called on the Federal Government to extend the proposed discount to other filling stations to ensure that more motorists benefit from the initiative.
The latest price adjustments also come after petrol prices recorded a downward trend in the preceding week, raising fresh concerns over the volatility of fuel costs and their impact on transportation and the prices of goods and services.
Meanwhile, international crude oil prices remained elevated, with Brent crude trading at $104 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate at $91 per barrel, according to the report.
