By Olusegun Lawrence The 2016 budget will expire by May 5, 2017, the Senate disclosed on Monday.
This is contrary to report that the appropriation budget will elapse on Friday, March 31.
Senator Danjuma Gone, who chairs Senate Committee on Appropriation disclosed this while speaking with newsmen.
He said by the provision of clause 11 of 2016 appropriation act, the budget will run for 12 months.
According to him, “The budget will last till May 5, 2017, by the provision of clause 11 of the 2016 appropriation Act assented to by the President Muhammadu Buhari. This budget will run for 12 months.
“The clarification became necessary in view of anxiety over expiration of 2016 budget. It will expire on May 5 not March 31.”
Goje therefore warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to desist from mopping up funds in anticipation that the budget will elapse by May, adding that it would amount to violation of the Appropriation Act.
Prompt News recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari presented a N6.08 trillion proposal to the joint session of the National Assembly in December 2015.
Sequel to the presentation, Senate had on March 23 passed the 2016 Appropriation Bill into law.
