By Olusegun Lawrence The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col Hameed Ali (rtd) is unfit to hold public office in the country, the Senate declared on Wednesday.
Consequently, the Senate has called for his resignation forthwith.
The Customs Boss was billed to appear at plenary today (Wednesday) but did not show up, relying on a letter from the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami.
In the letter, Mr Malami, had stated that the matter relating to the Customs boss appearing in uniform is now in court hence, Mr. Ali could not appear before the Senate until the court makes a pronouncement.
But, the letter from the AGF did not go down well with many Senators.
Contributing, Senator Dino Melaye, Kogi West, posited that no court process can stop lawmakers from performing their functions.
According to him, the letter from the AGF is an insult to the National Assembly.
Prompt News recalls that the Senate had a couple of weeks ago, summoned the embattled Customs boss to appear before it in uniform to explain the rationale behind the introduction of the now suspended Vehicle Duty Policy.
Mr Ali however appeared at the Red Chamber plenary in mufti last week, a situation that angered the Senators and consequently walked him out.
He was asked to appear again today (Wednesday) in his Customs uniform but could not do so as a result of the letter from the AGF directing him not to appear.
