A father of four, Kamadioye Krama, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Emulation community, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The incident reportedly happened at about 8pm on Friday as youths in the community were preparing for the coronation of a local stakeholder.

Krama’s elder brother, Monday, said the deceased had returned from the farm and gone to a barbing salon before heading to the town where preparations for the ceremony were underway.

According to him, Krama was at the venue watching the youths erect canopies when the attackers suddenly appeared and opened fire.

“Suddenly, the gunmen came out from nowhere and started shooting. They shot him dead. That is what happened,” Monday said in a telephone interview on Saturday.

He dismissed reports that the gathering where his brother was killed was political, explaining that Krama had simply gone to watch the preparations for the coronation scheduled for Saturday.

The family member appealed to the police to investigate the killing and ensure that those responsible were arrested and prosecuted.

“All we are asking is justice. Let the police investigate the incident and ensure those behind my brother’s death are prosecuted,” he said.

Monday disclosed that the deceased was married and left behind four children.

Following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of the Abua/Odual Police Division and other officers reportedly visited the family. A formal complaint was also said to have been lodged at the division.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident and said detectives had commenced an investigation.

Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the probe would establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. Investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim and determine what led to the unfortunate incident,” she said.

The police spokesperson added that the command would uncover the facts and take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
