Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has reiterated his support for polygamy, arguing that the practice is not sinful and has examples in the Bible.
The actor shared his position in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, where he maintained that several prominent biblical figures had multiple wives without being condemned by God.
Edochie has remained outspoken about polygamy since announcing his marriage to actress Judy Austin as his second wife in 2022.
“POLYGAMY IS NOT A SIN. Even in the bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more,” he wrote.
He also suggested that some men are naturally inclined towards having more than one wife but choose monogamy because they fear how society might perceive them.
“Today, many men are destined to have many wives but because they don’t know who they are and scared of what society will say they end up having just one and life doesn’t seem to be working for them,” Edochie added.
His comments have attracted mixed reactions on social media, with some users criticising his stance while others expressed support for his views.

The actor’s position on polygamy has been a recurring subject of public discussion since he disclosed his marriage to Austin in April 2022. The announcement sparked controversy and was followed by the breakdown of his marriage to his first wife, May Edochie.
Prompt News reports the debate has also resurfaced following the announcement by US-based pastor Israel Ford of LifeWorks Church in Wickliffe, Ohio, that he had taken a second wife.
Ford introduced Minister Shakayla Ford as his second wife during a church service attended by his first wife, Prophetess Lydia Ford, on Sunday, October 25.
He also challenged the belief that marriage should be restricted to one wife, describing monogamy as the only acceptable marital arrangement as inconsistent with the Bible.
“As a nation we have been taught that a man should have one wife only. This is unbiblical,” Ford wrote on Facebook.
