The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has criticised the recent attack by suspected bandits in the state, describing the incident as evidence of serious security lapses.
The party made its position known in a statement issued on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, following the attack.
Suspected bandits reportedly stormed an Operation Burst base located along the Igbeti-Igboho Road in the Olorunsogo Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Sunday.
The attackers were said to have operated for some time before leaving the area with some property belonging to the security personnel.
Among the items reportedly stolen during the incident were a generator and a motorcycle.
Reacting to the development, the APC questioned the effectiveness of the security measures put in place by the state government, particularly the multi-billion-naira surveillance aircraft acquired by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The party expressed concern that the attackers were allegedly able to operate without being detected or intercepted, despite the reported deployment plans for the surveillance aircraft.
Sadare also questioned the whereabouts and operational effectiveness of the aircraft, saying residents had yet to see their impact in preventing or responding to security threats across the state.
He argued that the attack was particularly troubling because Igbeti was reportedly associated with the base station for the surveillance aircraft, yet the attackers allegedly operated in the area without being tracked.
The APC further criticised Makinde over his frequent comments on the economic reforms of the President Bola Tinubu administration, accusing the governor of demonstrating a poor understanding of economic management.

The party concluded that the latest attack had raised serious questions about the state’s security architecture and the government’s ability to deploy its resources effectively against criminal elements.
