The Ondo State Police Command has rescued two persons abducted by suspected gunmen in Akure, the state capital, and has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
The command said the incident occurred on Friday, January 24, 2026, at about 9:45am, when four men were attacked at a work site in the Eleyewo area of the metropolis.
Those abducted were identified as Adesola Emiloye, 45; Jimoh Akinlolu, 35; Ebenezer Oloro, 43; and another individual whose identity was yet to be confirmed as of press time.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the victims were ambushed by two armed men, prompting a distress call to the command’s control room.
He added that operatives of the command’s tactical teams were immediately deployed to the area, leading to the rescue of two of the victims and the recovery of their motorcycles.
Jimoh noted that the remaining two victims reportedly escaped into the bush during the operation.
He said efforts were ongoing to locate the other victims and arrest the suspects behind the attack.
Commending the operatives for what he described as a swift and professional response, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that the state would not be a safe haven for criminals.
Lawal also lauded the collaboration between the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, saying the partnership had boosted crime prevention and enhanced public safety in the state.
