Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, on Thursday, inaugurated the state Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).
In a speech at the brief ceremony that took place at the Government House, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, Nwifuru said that the board would help to strengthen the state’s education system.
He, therefore, charged the members to be dedicated and proactive in the discharge of their duty.
“I urge you to do your work effectively as we move to make the board work again.”
“Make sure that you do your work effectively to make the state primary school system work again.
“That is the number one advice.
“The most important thing is for you to be proactive to your duties.
“Do not let the excitement of the appointment today be in vain.
“Make me happy as well as the entire state.
“Make us happy by discharging your duty effectively.
“Governance is all about working with people and giving them what they need.
“The state has all it takes to make the people happy,” Nwifuru said.
Responding, the Chairman of the 12-member board, Mrs Patience Ogodo, thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve in the board.
Ogodo pledged that the board would work assiduously to ensure that the basic education system in the state got revived in the people’s interest.
The other members of the board include Dr Livinus Ezeuwa (Secretary), Mr Samuel Okoronkwo, Mr Chijoke Nwuzor and Julius Nwokpor.
Others are Mr Offor Okorie and Francis Ekechi, representing the Civil Society Organization and NGOs, respectively, while Mrs Virginia Oketa, represents women in the board. (NAN)
