Nigeria’s inflation rate continued its downward trend in July 2025 as the Headline inflation dropped to 21.88% year-on-year, from 22.22% in June.
The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) July 2025 report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) published on Friday indicated that year-on-year, food inflation inched upward while core inflation declined.
The Statistician General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran who announced this in a statement on Friday clarified that on a month-to-month basis, the inflation rate in July 2025 was 1.99%, which was 0.31% higher than the 1.68% rate recorded in the preceding month.
He further clarified: “This means that in July 2025, the rate of increase in the average price level was higher than the rate of increase in the average price level in June 2025.”
According to the CPI report, Food inflation, which has been the major driver of the overall inflation, increased to 22.74% in July 2025 from 21.97% in June 2025, adding that on a month-on-month basis, July 2025 inflation food inflation dipped to 3.12%, down by 0.13% compared to 3.25% in .June this year.

The Bureau disclosed that Core inflation, which excludes volatile agricultural produce and energy prices, stood at 21.33% year-on-year in July, from 22.76% recorded in the preceding month, adding that on a month-on-month basis, the Core Inflation rate was 0.97% in July 2025, down by 1.49% compared to 2.46% in June this year.
