The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced that aspirants seeking its presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections will pay a total of N60 million for expression of interest and nomination forms.
The party disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by its National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, presidential aspirants are expected to pay N20 million for the expression of interest form and N40 million for the nomination form.
The NDC also released fees for other elective positions. Governorship aspirants are to pay N10 million for the expression of interest form and N20 million for the nomination form.
Senatorial hopefuls will pay N3 million and N5 million respectively, while aspirants seeking seats in the House of Representatives are expected to pay N2 million for the expression of interest form and N4 million for the nomination form.
For state Houses of Assembly positions, aspirants are to pay N1 million for the expression of interest form and N1.5 million for the nomination form.
The party, however, introduced concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities.
It stated that women would enjoy a 50 per cent reduction in fees across all categories, while persons living with disabilities would pay only 25 per cent of the approved charges.
The NDC also unveiled the timetable for its primary elections and other pre-election activities.
According to the schedule, the sale of expression of interest forms will commence on May 13 and end on May 18, while screening and interviews for aspirants are slated for May 19 to May 21.
The party said nomination forms would be sold between May 21 and May 23 immediately after the screening exercise, adding that all completed forms must be submitted on or before May 25.
It further disclosed that appeals arising from the screening exercise would be entertained on May 25 and May 26, while primaries for various elective positions would hold between May 27 and May 28.
The presidential primary election is scheduled for May 29 in Abuja.
The party explained that screening for aspirants seeking seats in state Houses of Assembly would take place in their respective states, while governorship, National Assembly and presidential aspirants would be screened at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
It added that governorship primaries would be conducted at the local government level.
The NDC stated that all aspirants would be required to sign undertakings in line with the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.
The party also announced plans to adopt the open secret ballot system during its primaries, noting that the move was aimed at promoting transparency, fairness and internal democracy.
