The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Abubakar Musa over the alleged killing of a 30 year old resident, Nathaniel Yusuf, in Jambutu Ward, Yola North Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters by Grace Yusuf, the deceased’s sister, who reported that her brother had been violently attacked.
According to the police, officers responded immediately to the distress call, rescued the victim from the scene and rushed him to the Specialist Hospital in Jimeta for emergency treatment. The suspect was apprehended at the scene of the incident.
Preliminary findings by investigators indicate that the victim allegedly suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to both legs, his right arm and head, after reportedly being assaulted with a stick.
The police said medical personnel made efforts to save the victim’s life, but he later died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kabiru Hassan, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola to take over the case for a comprehensive investigation and ensure the suspect is prosecuted in line with the law.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital for an autopsy, while investigations continue.
