American music icon Lionel Richie has been hospitalised again after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat.
The health development has forced Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire to cancel three upcoming dates on their joint ‘Sing a Song All Night Long’ tour.
The affected performances were scheduled to take place in San Francisco on September 26, Chicago on September 30 and Columbus, Ohio, on October 2.
Richie has since undergone an AFib ablation, a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat abnormal heart rhythms. His representative confirmed that the procedure was successful and said the 77-year-old singer is currently recovering ahead of his return to performing.
The latest hospitalisation is Richie’s third in recent months. It comes less than four weeks after he was admitted to a hospital in St. Louis following his August 29 performance at The Muny.
He reportedly remained in the hospital for three days and was discharged on September 2 after undergoing tests related to cardiac concerns. Reports at the time indicated that he had appeared unwell toward the end of the concert.

Prompt News reports Richie also experienced a health issue during a June performance in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he told concertgoers that he was feeling dizzy.
“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” the singer told the audience.
Following medical advice, Richie postponed two performances before returning to the stage for a June 30 show in Pittsburgh.
