I give thanks to Allah, who created the Angels from light; He created the devil from smoky flame, and the first Man, Adam from clay. Glory is to Him, the master of creation. I testify that there is no other god deserving worship except Allah (majestic is He); I also testify that Muhammad (p.b.u.h) is the Messenger of Allah and His Prophet.
The Primary as well as the principal assignment of all messengers of Allah (s.w.t) is to reform the mind of the people, gently tuning the hearts towards Almighty Allah (s.w.t). The Arabs were so involved in anything that is amoral. Prostitution, drunkenness, greed, tribal wars, and to top it they worship images of all sort. By the time Islam re-enter Arabia, not less than 360 images were being worshipped by the pagans at the Ka’aba.
The first assignment of the Messenger (p.b.u.h) is to re-unite the hearts of humanity to the worship of The CREATOR rather than the created. When the heart has been re-awakened, man’s consciousness understand the fact that each one will be called to account for his deeds on Judgment Day. That was why it was easy to administer the ummah then.
However, to change the hearts, man needs truthful words that come from the mouth of a truthful Leader, not mere slogan. The manner in which truth is presented is also of essence, not mere bravado / braggadocios. What is key for a change agent is ‘do as I do’ and for leadership to walk the talk. To achieve a positively changed society; here is what Islam gives you via the Words of Allah (the holy Qur’an), and the Ahadith of the Messenger (p.b.u.h).
Hadith no. 2186 Narrated Irbad ibn Sariyah: The preacher
Al-Irbad said: One day the Apostle of Allah (p.b.u.h) led us in prayer, then faced us and gave us a lengthy exhortation at which the eyes shed tears and the hearts were afraid. A man said: ‘Apostle of Allah! It seems as if it were a farewell exhortation, so what injunction do you give us?
He then said: I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey even if it be an Abyssinian slave, for those of you who live after me will see great disagreement.
Therefore:
- Change agent need to truly believe in Allah and worship Him
- He must know he has to be accountable to people and Creator
- He must walk the talk – even,
- if he is the son of a slave, so
- long as he is honest, sincere and God-fearing
- Good people should assist him
- Meaning that to believe and follow an honourable slave that is conscious of his creator is better than obeying a ‘big man’ that has neither reputation, nor integrity
- Islamic Leadership is not a local affair
- Truth is constant, whereas, lies and deception always shift position
You must then follow my Sunah and that of the rightly guided caliphs. Hold to it and stick fast to it. Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.
- The Practice of the Messenger is the Sunnah
- Messengers follow the directives of Allah
- You too should follow one that has no ulterior motive
- Nothing like enlightened self interest
Avoid novelties, for every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an error.
Symptom of ingratitude:
Q 11:9 If We give man a taste of mercy from Ourselves and then withdraw it from him behold! he is in despair and (falls into) blasphemy.
- All that you have is a little, compare to what remains with Allah
- All that you were given is temporary
- It could be power, wealth, children, office etc
- Even your soul is on loan, at the appropriate time, you will be recalled
- In reality nothing really belongs to you, why are you in despair and (falls into) blasphemy when your time is up.
- That is why recycling is the in-thing
11:10. But, if We give him a taste of (Our) favors after adversity hath touched him He is sure to say “All evil has departed from me;” Behold! he falls into exultation and pride.
- Pride is what affect some people not to see or accept the message
- When in need, the spiritualist, Muslims and non-Muslims were consulted, thieves, robbers, prostitute, etc were also lobbied
- He goes into agreement will all kinds of character
- He fasts and do charity all for the sole aim of achieving his aim, after that. . . Behold! he falls into exultation and pride.
- He forgets his humble beginning, that is the
- nature of drunkards, that is the nature of hypocrites
Q11:11 Not so do those who show patience and constancy and work in righteousness; for them is forgiveness (of sins) and a great reward
- Those that are patient are people that can plan
- After planning, you need to follow up your plan conscientiously
- Then you can pray and hope for the fruit of your labour
- That is patient and constancy
- If you work to get what you have, you will not flaunt it
- If you have earned your position, the creator will support you –
Otherwise, you are on your own
Q 2:46 Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord and that they are to return to Him.
- In the course of pursuing your earthly existence
- You must know that the end does not justify the means
- When your action or inaction bring poverty, diseases, and death to the people, then know that -you certainly
are going to meet Allah for accountability
Therefore on the attitude of I, me, and myself mentality
The Messenger said to a Bedouin when he made a comment like this:
Bedouin: Allah bestow your mercy on me and the Messenger and none else
Prophet: Mercy of Allah is so wide and you have made it so narrow
- It is a sign of ignorance to feel that only you deserves favor
- It is a sign of ignorance for leader to eat before the led
- It is a virtue for the spouse to think of the other before self
- The Prophet said Allah said if all my servant come to me with all their needs, Allah will be able to grant them without any depreciation in the bounties of Allah.
- His mercy spread to believers and non-believers alike
- Mercy of Allah is so wide, do not make it so narrow, that is what
you do when your attitude is ‘I before others’.
- No matter how greedy you are , you can never exhaust the bank of Allah’s provision
The one with means should endure. Narrated Aisha 1210 Sahih Muslim:
A poor woman came to me along with her daughters. I gave her three dates. She gave a date to each of them and then she took up one date and brought that to her mouth in order to eat, but her daughters expressed desire to eat it. She then divided the date that she intended to eat between them. This (kind) treatment of her impressed me and I mentioned that which she did to Allah’s Apostle (p.b.u.h) Thereupon he said: Verily Allah (s.w.t) has assured Paradise for her, because of (this act) of her, or He has rescued her from Hell-Fire.
- The Mother of the faithful sacrificed from the household item
- Aisha as the beloved wife of the Messenger has been trained to be kind in generosity, even if it is as little as date fruits
- The mother too sacrificed for her daughters
- The Leader should sacrifice for the led
- The haves should sacrifice for the have-nots
- The strong should sacrifice for the weak
Verily Allah has assured Paradise for her, because of (this act) of hers, He has rescued her from Hell-Fire. Meaning that she has stopped her children from begging importunately
The essence of life is in knowing that sacrifice of the Leaders attracts the love of the followers, it is the way to the Heart of the governed and Allah will be pleased with you. The parents should be responsible to their wards and spouses to each other then you have a better family, community and nation.
