Nigerian Afrobeats singer Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, better known as Kizz Daniel, has revealed that the death of his mother was the reason he stepped away from music this year.
The singer made the disclosure on Friday while responding to a fan on X who speculated that he had been away because he was busy working on a new album.
The fan, @VicroyDominion1, suggested that preparations for a new project could have kept the singer occupied and led to his temporary absence from the music scene.
Prompt News reports Kizz Daniel dismissed the assumption, explaining that his break was prompted by the loss of his mother rather than plans for a new album.
“I paused for my Mom, not an album… Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family… sorry I came late this year,” he said.

The singer’s comment offered a glimpse into the personal reason behind his reduced musical activities this year, as he indicated that he had chosen to continue moving forward for the sake of his family.
Kizz Daniel had previously spoken about a loss within his family. In 2025, he disclosed that his wife’s mother had died in 2024.
