Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, inaugurated the renovated 86-bed capacity Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital at Kofar Kudu in Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Sunday.

The hospital had earlier been shut and sold by the previous administration in the state, but the sale was revoked by Gov. Yusuf when he assumed duties.

The governor reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to accord priority to the health sector for the health and well-being of the people.

He said the renovation and restoration of the hospital to a full-fledged government-owned hospital was part of his campaign promises.

The paediatric hospital, established in 1990 with 86 beds, treats more than 5,000 patients from Kano State and beyond on daily basis.

Yusuf expressed dismay that the predecessor administration shut the hospital and sold the structure to an individual to convert it to a shopping complex.

“This hospital offers treatment of general paediatrics, free admission, surgery, immunisation, nutritional services and research and training, but it was abandoned and its equipment were being stolen.

“We have equipped the hospital with state-of-science equipment to provide qualitative healthcare delivery for our people.

“We are operating a responsible government geared towards providing basic infrastructures that will enhance the well-being of our people, irrespective of political differences,’’ the governor said.

Yusuf warned that his administration would not tolerate abuse of office by medical personnel deployed to manage the facility.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Labaran Yusuf, applauded the foresight and commitment of Gov. Yusuf for ensuring that the facility was restored.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, urged members of the public to make judicious use of the facility and called on parents to immunise their children. (NAN)
