Award-winning filmmaker Funke Akindele has shared insights into her personality and how she handles relationships, admitting that she is still working on finding a healthy balance.
In a recent interview on The Morayo Show, the actress acknowledged that she has a tendency to cut people off, but said she is gradually learning to improve on that aspect of her life.
When asked about her approach to relationships, she credited actor Uzee Usman for helping her adopt a more open-minded perspective.
“I am not proud of that but I am proud of it. There must be a balance and I thank God for someone like Uzee Usman in my life. There was a day Uzee sat my down when I complaining about some people’s behaviors,” she said.
“He was like ‘number one, you are a leader, you have to accept people for who they are. It is not every door you have to close, you will just leave them and put them in their place’. And for the first time I sat down, I was quiet and I said it is true.”
Akindele further described herself as someone who loves deeply but is aware of her imperfections.

“I am an extremist, I love so hard. I am real, I am not perfect, I can be troublesome. I am tough, if I want you to do something… When my mum was alive, she used say ‘Funke, everybody cannot be like you. Everybody cannot be as smart or as fast you, calm down. It is good but calm down’,” she said.
“So human relationship for me is very important and I am learning everyday but note, no matter what happens my mental health is my priority and you know I am getting older.”
Her comments come amid renewed public attention following a tense moment involving fellow actress Toyin Abraham at a recent movie premiere.
At the event, Abraham reportedly approached Akindele to greet her, but Akindele did not respond, appearing to look away. Abraham then moved on to greet another colleague before leaving the scene.
Prompt News reports the incident has since generated reactions online, adding context to Akindele’s recent reflections on relationships and personal boundaries.
