Nigerian singer Shoday has revealed why he has chosen not to get tattoos, explaining that the decision is part of his long-term career planning and fallback strategy.
Speaking as a guest on the Ada’s Room podcast, the 26-year-old artiste, born Shodade Solomon Segun, said he prefers to keep his body free of permanent ink in case his music career does not last.
Shoday, who studied building technology, noted that he still considers the possibility of returning to a conventional office job if music does not work out.
He said: “I studied building technology in school, and I am here doing music. I knew that if music does not work, look at my body, do you see any tattoos? It is because I am sceptical. If music does not work, I would dust my CV, and I am back in the office.
“I’d be on low cuts. Straight up, I am back in the office. This music is what I am doing for life. I used to tell people that if God did not want me to go far, I would not get to this point that I am currently at. The fact that I am here, and I have done it consistently, not one, not two, not five songs, and I am still here, that means God really want me to do this.”
Prompt News reports he also advised young creatives to always have a backup plan, stressing the unpredictability of life and career paths.

“One thing I have kind of learned so far in life is that it would not be sweet. Sometimes, it would not go as planned. Always have plan B. Always know when to quickly flip the script and do something else,” he said.
Shoday released his debut album Hybrid in February, a 14-track project that further positioned him as one of the emerging acts to watch in the Nigerian music scene.
