Gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN launched a deadly attack on three communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, on Thursday night, killing at least seven people.
The affected communities: Umualaoma, Ndiakuwata Uno, and Ndi-Ejezie were thrown into panic as the attackers, who arrived on motorbikes, opened fire indiscriminately on residents between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Victims reportedly included shop owners, their customers and passersby.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, had condemned the killings, describing them as “barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.”
According to the statement, several others were critically injured in the attack.
In response, CP Danjuma has deployed tactical units and intelligence operatives to track down those responsible.
“The CP has personally led the tactical team in a thorough combing operation of the affected areas.
He affirmed that the situation is under control and that proactive security measures are being enforced to prevent further attacks and restore peace in the region,” Okoye stated.
CP Danjuma extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

He urged the public to remained calm and cooperate with security operatives as investigations continue.
