Suspected kidnappers have abducted two farmers in the Oke Ifira/Idogun forest axis of Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, prompting a joint security operation to secure their release.
A relative of the victims disclosed the incident during a live radio programme in Akure on Tuesday, stating that the abduction occurred on Saturday.
According to the family member, the incident has been reported to both the police and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun.
The relative also alleged that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of N10 million for the victims’ release.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command received a report that the two farmers were missing.
He, however, clarified that the police had not received any information indicating that the abductors had demanded a ransom.
Jimoh said a coordinated search and rescue operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, Agbekoya operatives and community volunteers had been launched in the affected forest.
“The Ondo State Police Command confirms that a report of missing persons was received at the Isua Akoko Divisional Headquarters.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with operational and intelligence resources fully deployed to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible,” he said.

The police spokesperson appealed to members of the public to provide any credible information that could assist security agencies in locating the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
