The Organisation of African Instituted Churches has commenced a three-day prayer session for members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church abducted by bandits during a Sunday service in Kaduna State.
PUNCH Online had reported that no fewer than 177 worshippers were allegedly kidnapped from two branches of the church in Iburu District, Kajuru Local Government Area of the state, when gunmen invaded the community last Sunday.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said bandits abducted some worshippers during a church service.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Wednesday visited the Kurmin Wali community in the wake of the abduction.
The governor said he was in the area to sympathise with residents over what he described as a painful and unfortunate incident, assuring them that the state government was committed to securing the safe return of all abducted persons.
Sani stressed that the government placed high value on human life, adding that the protection of lives and property remained its foremost responsibility.
He also disclosed that some residents sustained injuries during the attack, assuring them that the state government would take full responsibility for their medical care and welfare.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Thursday, the OAIC Regional President, Israel Akinadewo, announced the commencement of a three-day prayer programme for the release of the abducted church members.
He urged members to join the prayer session from Thursday to Saturday, with a special altar prayer scheduled for Sunday.
“Let us embark on three days of prayer from today (Thursday) to Saturday, with a special altar prayer on Sunday, asking God to intervene in this matter,” Akinadewo said.
