Team Nigeria’s Abduljabar Adama booked his place in the men’s 50m freestyle swimming semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with an impressive performance in the heats, Prompt News Online reports.
The Nigerian national record holder clocked 22.67 seconds to finish third in his heat, securing qualification for the last four of the event.
Adama trailed Australia’s Flynn Southam, who won the heat in 22.03s, while England’s Jacob Mills placed second with a time of 22.40s.
It was, however, a disappointing outing for fellow Nigerian Clinton Opute, who finished sixth in his heat after posting a time of 23.15s.
Opute remains the second reserve for the semi-finals and could still gain a place in the next round if any of the qualified swimmers withdraw.
Nigeria have enjoyed a bright start to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, ending the opening day with six medals—three gold and three silver—all won in the para powerlifting events, as the country sits among the early leaders on the medals table
