Funke Akindele has once again rewritten Nollywood box office history as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, has surpassed the ₦1 billion milestone, grossing ₦1,109,463,846 in cinemas.
The landmark achievement was confirmed by FilmOne Entertainment in a post shared on its X platform on Monday, where the distributor described the performance as historic and unmatched within the West African film space.
FilmOne revealed that the movie is now the fastest title in West Africa to cross the ₦1 billion mark, while also setting a new benchmark for the highest single-day earnings on Boxing Day, pulling in ₦129.5 million.
“Fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1B+,” the distributor announced, adding that it also recorded “the highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (₦129.5M).”
The distributor further noted that Behind The Scenes currently stands as the highest-grossing cinema release of 2025, maintaining strong box office momentum several weeks after its debut.
Highlighting Funke Akindele’s record-breaking run, FilmOne described her as “the only director to cross ₦1B+ at the box office three different times” and “Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time.”

It also stated that the actress-filmmaker has become “the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in one calendar year,” a feat that remains unmatched in the industry.
“Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far. This win is for all of us,” FilmOne added.
Earlier updates had shown that the film earned ₦512 million within 12 days of its cinema release, making it the top-grossing Nollywood title of 2025 at the time. The movie had its advance screenings on December 10 and 11 before opening nationwide on December 12.
Within its opening days, Behind The Scenes crossed ₦200 million and delivered what FilmOne described as “the biggest opening weekend of 2025,” while also setting multiple opening-weekend records, including the highest admissions recorded during that period.
At the time, the distributor said: “₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend.”
The story-driven drama explores the theme of black tax, spotlighting the emotional and financial responsibilities placed on individuals who support extended family members — a subject that has struck a chord with audiences nationwide.
Prompt News reports the film stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role and features an ensemble cast including Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni”, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, as well as reality TV personalities Handi and Wanni Danbaki.
