Former President Goodluck Jonathan is back after spending about a month outside the country.

According to reports, he came into Nigeria on Wednesday evening through Port Harcourt International Airport, aboard an Air France flight.

The former President who was received on arrival by close aides and some Ijaw sons and daughters headed to Otuoke, his country home in Bayelsa state.

There have been speculations that Jonathan may have been granted an asylum abroad following fears that he may be picked up by the Anti-graft Agency, EFCC.

A national daily even reported that he was on exile in Cote d’Ivore and had been granted asylum. However, Jonathan dispelled the rumour.

But, President Muhammadu Buhari, while hosting State House correspondents to a lunch on May 29, Democracy Day, said he had great respect for former President Jonathan.

He recalled how Jonathan shocked him with that historic telephone call that he had accepted defeat and congratulated him even while the votes were still being counted.
