The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected fake pastor and a woman over the alleged abduction of a four-week-old baby in Minna, the state capital.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the suspects were apprehended following a swift police investigation aided by technical intelligence.
According to him, the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division, Minna, on July 14 at about 10 a.m., after a nursing mother informed the police that her four week old baby had been deceitfully taken from her around the Mobil Roundabout area.
Abiodun said detectives immediately launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of 24 year old Chidi Johnson, popularly known as “Yaron Pastor,” a resident of Abdulsalam Quarters in Minna.
The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that a 22 year old woman, identified as Zainab Ibrahim, who is from the Alagbado area of Minna but resides in Sokoto State, had approached him to obtain a newborn baby after reportedly suffering a miscarriage.
Investigators further alleged that Johnson lured the nursing mother and her four week old baby to the Kasuwan Gwari area at about noon on July 13 as part of the plan to abduct the infant.

Police said the baby was successfully rescued, while investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that everyone connected with the crime is brought to justice.
