Operatives of Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have apprehended 54-year-old Adelani Oriyomi at a burial ground in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by So-Safe Corps Commander Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
According to Ganzallo, “At approximately 2:35 a.m. on January 21, 2025, officers conducting a routine patrol noticed suspicious activity behind a church on a parcel of land.”
Oriyomi, who was trying to hide, was apprehended at the scene. During interrogation, he admitted that he was attempting to retrieve a skull to complete the number needed for a money ritual, known locally as ‘Osole.’
The suspect further revealed that he had previously sold nearly ten skulls.
Oriyomi also confessed to being a repeat offender, having been arrested before for similar crimes in Ado-Odo.
He had served a two-year sentence and an additional six years and nine months at the Oba Correctional Centre after another conviction in Obada-Oko.
Ganzallo confirmed that Oriyomi, along with the recovered dried human skull, was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Obada Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and potential prosecution.
The So-Safe Corps Commander urged community leaders to conduct thorough screenings of tenants and visitors to prevent the harboring of undesirable individuals.
He emphasized that such vigilance could account for 70% of home security, with the remaining 30% dependent on awareness of external threats.
