Adeboye Omotayo, a public servant, has filed for divorce at the Jikwoyi Customary Court, citing his wife Ella’s alleged poor hygiene as the primary reason for the breakdown of their marriage.
Omotayo, who resides within the court’s jurisdiction, told the court that his wife’s lack of cleanliness had become unbearable.
“The main problem I have faced since getting married is that my wife doesn’t know how to keep the house tidy. Whenever I return home from work, I can’t rest because the house is always dirty and smelly,” Omotayo stated.
He added that despite his efforts to adjust, the situation had worsened, with his wife neglecting her personal hygiene as well. “She is always looking unkempt,” he said.
The petitioner also alleged that his wife, a businesswoman, had no affection, respect, or love for him anymore, accusing her of using him solely to achieve her goal of having children.
“She gangs up with her family members to insult, curse, and threaten me,” Omotayo further claimed.
In response, Ella denied the allegations of poor hygiene and countered her husband’s claims in court.
The presiding judge, Thelma Baba, encouraged the couple to seek an amicable resolution, especially for the sake of their children.
The matter was adjourned to January 28 for a report on the settlement or further hearing.
