Reality star and beauty entrepreneur Adeola Adeyemi, widely known as Diiadem, has shared why she prefers the term “single parent” instead of “single mother,” even though she largely raises her daughter on her own.
Speaking on the Diary of a Naija Girl podcast, the Real Housewives of Lagos season 3 star explained that she intentionally keeps the door open for her child’s father to be part of their daughter’s life.
“I won’t say I am a single mother. I would just say I am a single parent because I did not stop my baby’s dad from being in her life,” Diiadem said.
She revealed that after a long period of absence, her daughter’s father reached out, and she welcomed the reconnection, despite concerns from those close to her.
“After a very long time, he reached out, and I opened the doors because, to be very honest, I wanted my daughter to have her dad. Even the guy I was seeing at the time was like, ‘Are you okay? This guy just left you guys.’ But at the end of the day, that’s her dad. What can we do?
“I saw the joy and happiness he brought to my child. So, it is actually not the same.”

Diiadem also highlighted that while she can financially provide for her daughter, the emotional presence of a father figure cannot be replaced.
“To be very honest, the position of a man would still be there. You can’t do it all. Even though you have the money… that emotional presence is needed for the child,” she said.
Prompt News reports the reality star previously revealed that she ended her relationship with her child’s father after experiencing domestic abuse during her pregnancy. She and her ex-husband, Odekunle, held their traditional wedding in 2017.
