Lokoja — A Federal High Court in Lokoja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore and conduct elections in 11 constituencies in Kogi State that had been suppressed in previous polls.
Justice Isah Danshan, who delivered the ruling, described the decision as imperative, noting that historical records confirm the existence of these constituencies at the state’s creation.
“Based on the evidence presented, it is clear that these constituencies are legitimate. INEC must, without delay, conduct elections in the suppressed areas in the 2027 polls,” the judge declared.
Barr. Ayo Kunle Jonathan, the lead counsel for the petitioner, welcomed the judgment, urging INEC to comply promptly and organise elections for the affected constituencies.
The Executive Chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, who initiated the case against INEC and the Kogi State Government, said the ruling vindicates the long-standing demands of the residents.
He called on the electoral commission to immediately begin preparations, insisting that years of disenfranchisement have finally been addressed.

With the court’s directive, INEC is now expected to conduct elections in all 36 state constituencies in 2027, up from the 25 lawmakers elected in previous polls.
