The head of the Egyptian army has appeared live on television, announcing the suspension of the constitution. General Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, flanked by religious and military leaders, said the chief justice of constitutional court would take the powers of the presidency. Egyptians are awaiting a televised statement on the political crisis, after a deadline set by the army for a resolution to the turmoil passed. President Mohammed Morsi has repeated his offer of a consensus government, but still refuses to step down. Barely 48 hours after it started a three-day warning strike, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Tuesday night called off the strike. On Monday, NUPENG had directed all its members at the depots to stop loading petroleum products for the next three days to protest the alleged inhuman treatment of its members by the management of Chevron, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and Agip Oil Company.
