Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have killed two suspected kidnappers and arrested gunrunners during security operations in Plateau and Kaduna states.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer for Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major Samson Zhakom, the operations were carried out under the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A.
On March 12, troops conducted a raid in the Kuru and Turu areas of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State.
During the operation, two armed criminals were killed. The troops recovered 18 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and nine rounds of 5.56 x 45mm ammunition from them.
In a separate operation near Josho Village in Bokkos LGA, soldiers rescued two kidnapped girls — 11-year-old Nanbam Adamu and Dorcas Wantu — after kidnappers fled their hideout upon sighting the troops.
The rescued victims, both from Mbor Village in the Mushere District, were safely returned to their families.
On the same day, troops mounted checkpoints along the Bokkos-Bot-Mangu Road and arrested a 21-year-old suspected gunrunner, Sengi David. He was found with an AK-47 magazine and 48 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Another suspect, 22-year-old Blessed Paul, described as a notorious kidnapper, terrorist, and arms dealer, was arrested on March 11 in Garaje Community, Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State.
He was reportedly lured by undercover troops after agreeing to sell an AK-47 rifle for ₦1.5 million. He was caught with an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and two rounds of ammunition.
The suspect is said to be cooperating with security forces to track down other members of his criminal network.
