The Anambra State Government has shut down the Children of the Light Anointing Ministry in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, following allegations of involvement in ritualistic practices.
The church, located in Amafor village, was sealed over suspicions of its ties to the controversial “Oke-Ite” ritual, which reportedly involves human remains, animals, and herbs mixed in a mud pot for money rituals.
The state government issued a statement confirming the closure, emphasizing its stance against deceptive and exploitative practices.
“Oke-Ite” has been identified as a fraudulent scheme used by native doctors to deceive individuals seeking quick wealth.
The church, led by Pastor Onyebuchi Okocha, also known as ‘Onye Eze Jesus’, was raided by the state’s security outfit, Agunechemba, during an inspection of the premises. Security operatives reportedly discovered various substances and other suspicious materials on site.
Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, explained that the church’s closure was prompted by public complaints and a viral video in which the pastor allegedly confessed to performing “Oke-Ite” rituals and engaging in other questionable practices.
Emeakayi added that forensic experts would analyze liquid substances and water samples from River Bethsaida, where the pastor is said to conduct spiritual cleansing rituals, to assess potential health hazards.
While the government upholds religious freedom, Emeakayi emphasized that practices linked to fraudulent schemes and ritualistic activities would not be tolerated.
The Anambra State Government remains committed to curbing deceptive religious and ritual practices within the state.
