By: Gracious Akujobi The Minister Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi is confident the Golden Eaglets will get to the final of the ongoing U-17 FIFA world cup in Dubai.
Abdullahi, after watching the boys beat Iran 4-1 in their second round encounter, described the team as phenomenal even as he showered praise on the coaching crew who he said have paraded the best U-17 side.
“The team is probably the best U-17 side Nigeria has produced in a long time and their prospect of lifting the cup is very high” he said
The Minister had earlier spoken with the players and officials from Abuja. He told them Nigerians were behind them as he conveyed the President’s good wishes.
“The President, His Excellency Goodluck Ebele Jonathan fully supports you and is happy with the victories you have recorded so far,” Abdullahi told the boys. He reminded them that the administration of President Jonathan has a policy of rewarding outstanding sportsmen and women, and so they should focus on winning the championship for a chance of meeting with the President.
He urged the players not to get carried away by recent achievements but to remain focused on winning the trophy as he assured them that he would personally be in the UAE to support them should they qualify for the semi-final.
