            SA Political, Gulak

Presidential Adviser on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, on Wednesday said some of the demands of the aggrieved governors run contrary to the provisions of the nation’s constitution as well as the ruling party’s constitution.

Speaking with State House correspondents on Wednesday, Gulak however, said peace talks would continue, expressing optimism that resolution would soon be reached.

The seven aggrieved governors are said to be demanding among others things hat President Goodluck Jonathan should not run in 2015 and that Bamanga Tukur must quit as national chairman of the party.

But, the Presidential Political Adviser hastened to fault these demands, saying while the former would run counter to the nation’s constitution which guaranteed two terms, the latter is also the constitution of the party which spelt out how a chairman can be removed.

His words, “These demands would not be in accordance with the laws of the federal republic of Nigeria and certain demands would not be in accordance with the party’s constitution.
“What we are saying is that the elders are talking. We are talking in accordance with the laws of the land and of the party. So, we are on peace course. Both parties are being made to understand what are involved. The party constitution, the Nigerian constitution and other issues that are concerned; about the last night meeting, everybody was happy. Further meetings are expected”.
“The leaders are discussing. This issue with PDP is not uncommon. They are not unexpected. PDP is the biggest party in Africa and the only national party in Nigeria.

“Everybody wants to belong to PDP and once you have various shades of opinions in a party like this, we are bound to disagree to agree. We have the internal mechanisms to sort out ourselves. I’m assuring you that this so-called crisis would be a thing of the past”.
