The Kano State Government has attributed the duplicate payment of July 2026 salaries to some civil servants to a technical glitch during salary processing, assuring workers that steps are being taken to recover the excess funds.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Office of the Accountant General and signed by the Deputy Director of the Kano Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, Abdulhadi Hamza, on July 26, 2026.
According to the government, the duplicate payments resulted from a technical error on the part of the bank responsible for processing workers’ salaries.
The circular stated that the affected financial institution had commenced efforts to reverse the excess payments directly from the accounts of workers who received them.
The government advised all affected employees not to take any action for the time being, urging them to await further instructions from the Office of the Accountant General while the recovery process is ongoing.
It added that where the bank is unable to retrieve the overpaid sums through the reversal process, the affected workers would be formally notified and provided with guidelines on how to refund the excess payments.
