The palace of the Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has denied claims by Nollywood actor James Olanrewaju Omiyinka that he was conferred with a chieftaincy title during a recent visit to the monarch.
The controversy followed Baba Ijesha’s social media post in which he expressed gratitude to the Ooni for what he described as a royal reception, fatherly affection, luxurious gifts, a brand-new car and a chieftaincy title.
The actor had claimed he was honoured with the title “Baba Awada Konge Oduwa, Ile Ife, Ile Oodua.”
Reacting to the claim, the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, told Punch that while he was aware the actor received a vehicle from the monarch, he had no knowledge of any chieftaincy title being bestowed on him.
Prompt News reports Olafare explained that the Ooni regularly presents vehicles to deserving individuals, stressing that the gesture was not unusual.
“Kabiyesi gives cars to people. This is not the first time. He has given cars to many people, including kings and other individuals, and this is not new.
Many people have benefited from Kabiyesi’s car gifts, including me and popular figures like Haruna Ishola and Sefiu Alao. He gives out cars almost every day,” he said.

Another source within the palace also dismissed the actor’s claim, insisting that traditional chieftaincy titles are not conferred in the manner described by Baba Ijesha.
The conflicting accounts have generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users questioning the palace’s position, while others defended its clarification.
