Cape Verde head coach Bubista has refused to rule out the possibility of his side pulling off an upset against Argentina.
The Blue Sharks will be up against the defending champions in a 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 encounter in Miami on Friday.
The West Africans have made a big impact on their maiden appearance at the global soccer fiesta holding Spain to a draw and knocking out Uruguay.
The West Africans have made a big impression on their maiden appearance at the global football showpiece, holding Spain to a draw and knocking out Uruguay.
Argentina cruised through the group stage in impressive fashion and enter the knockout rounds as one of the favourites to go all the way, inspired by Lionel Messi, who continues to rewrite the record books.
Bubista however said his team are determined to make history once again.
“We’re ecstatic. Reaching the knockout phase means making history yet again,” Bubista told FIFA.com.
“Now we get to play against Argentina. In football, anything can happen. We’ll show them the same respect we’ve shown every opponent, but we’ll compete.
“We’re living a dream, but once we step onto the pitch we can’t see faces. We’ll approach this game exactly as we did against Spain or any other team.”
