Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has called on African Christians to balance faith with practical efforts while addressing the challenges facing society.
In a message shared on her Instagram page, the actress stressed that while spiritual issues require spiritual solutions, physical problems can only be resolved through deliberate action and responsible leadership.
According to her, prayer remains important for wisdom, strength and guidance, but it cannot replace the work needed to improve critical sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure and security.
“Physical problems require physical solutions. Spiritual problems require spiritual solutions.
“You cannot pray food onto your plate. Someone has to plant it, harvest it, transport it, cook it, or provide the means for you to get it yourself. Even in the bible, provision often came through people, work, and practical action,” she wrote.
Prompt News reports Njoku noted that development does not happen through prayers alone, pointing out that progress requires planning, accountability and hard work from both leaders and citizens.
“Good roads, quality healthcare, education, security, and economic growth will not appear simply because we pray about them. Prayer can guide us, strengthen us, and give us wisdom, but physical problems must also be addressed with physical action, planning, accountability, and hard work.”
Addressing Christians across Africa, the actress urged believers not to mistake prayer for action, insisting that both should work hand in hand.

“Dear African Christians, as we continue to pray, let us not confuse prayer with action. You cannot bind and cast away bad roads. You cannot rebuke a failing healthcare system into working. You cannot pray away the bandits who are terrorising our lives.
“Faith and action are not enemies. They work together.”
Her remarks come amid growing public conversations about insecurity, economic hardship and governance challenges across several African countries, with many citizens calling for practical solutions alongside spiritual intervention.
