Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing the need to pursue broader political aspirations and sustain his commitment to public service.
Ochei’s resignation was contained in a letter dated May 8, 2026, and addressed to the chairman of APC Ward 4 in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Asaba by his media aide, Austin Edemodu.
According to the former lawmaker, the decision to leave the ruling party followed extensive consultations and personal reflection on his political future.
Ochei noted that since joining the APC in 2016, he had played an active role in strengthening the party through grassroots mobilisation and political engagements across Delta State.
He stated that alongside loyal party members, efforts were made to expand the party’s influence and reinforce its structures within different communities.
The ex-speaker explained that his exit was driven by his desire to continue advancing his political convictions and vision for public service on a broader platform.
He, however, stressed that his resignation was not borne out of bitterness or grievances against any individual within the party.
Ochei also appealed to his supporters and political associates to remain calm, peaceful, and committed to democratic values.
Although he did not reveal his next political destination, the resignation has sparked speculations over his future political plans ahead of upcoming political activities in the state.
