Sheikh Hadiyatullah: MURIC Condoles Shariah Council

An Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has condoled with the Shariah Council over the death of Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah.

Sheikh Hadiyyatullah, president of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), passed away yesterday, Monday, 28th April, 2025.

Prompt News reports that MURIC described the deceased as an energetic, bold and resourceful leader.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

            The press release stated:

“The death of the president of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), Shaykh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah, has been announced. He died after a brief illness in his home town, Iwo, Osun State, yesterday, Monday, 28th April, 2025. He was 83.

“Shaykh Hadiyatullah was an energetic, bold and resourceful leader. A prominent and highly respected Islamic scholar, he is widely known for his deep knowledge of Islam and his world-wide exposure. He had a huge passion for the freedom and general welfare of Nigerian Muslims.

“The Shaykh attended the famous Arabic Institute of Nigeria, Elekuro, Ibadan (Ma’had al-’Arabi) as his launching pad to the world of Islamic education and research before tasting the delicious puddings of the University of Madinah where he read Shari’ah. Thereafter, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he did his masters degree.

“He has served as chairman of the Pilgrims Board of Osun State. He was also the Director of the Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria until his death. He was the first chairman of the Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars of Nigeria.

“We commiserate with the leadership and other officials of the Shariah Council as well as all members of the organization. This must be a harrowing experience for them after the death of their former president, Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad about three and a half years ago (30th December, 2021).

“May Allah forgive Shaykh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyatullah. May his soul be reposed in al-Jannah Firdaus. May Allah in His Infinite Mercy also grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
