A tragic petrol tanker explosion in Ibadan has claimed the life of a tanker driver and left one other person injured.
Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
He reported that the tanker lost control, collided with two other trucks, and overturned into a nearby pit, igniting a fire.
The explosion occurred around Fijabi House, Agbowo, on the Ojoo/Iwo Road Expressway. According to Mr. Akinyinka, the agency received a distress call at 2:45 a.m. and promptly deployed personnel to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas.
“Upon arrival, we found three trucks involved in the incident, spaced about 20 meters apart. Sadly, the driver of the tanker was burnt to death, while the motor boy was rescued alive and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for treatment,” he said.
Prompt News reports that the fire destroyed the tanker, but two other trucks were salvaged.
Officials from the fire service, police, and other security agencies, led by the agency’s Director of Operations, Ismail Adeleke, worked together to manage the situation and maintain order at the scene.
