The various ethnic groups in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have been charged to mobilize their members and ensure that they fully participate in the ongoing electioneering in order to have stakes in government.
President General of the Yoruba Community in the Federal Capital Territory, Dr, Hakeem Mosebolatan Adetunji gave the charge today in his address to the people of Abuja on the commemoration of the 62nd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.
Dr. Adetunji, in a statement made available to journalists said that the leaderships of the ethnic groups would be fulfilling a critical part of their responsibility and mandate by guaranteeing that their members perform their civic functions and promoting good governance in their states of residence.
For him, as the President General of all the Yoruba in the 8000 Sq Kilometres that make the capital territory, Dr. Adetunji disclosed that he had already put machinery in motion to ensure that all the zones of the Yoruba community in the six area councils of Abuja were fully sensitised and equipped to mobilize their members for campaigns and as well ensure that they vote right during the polls.
He congratulated the Yoruba and other tribes in the Federal Capital Territory on the 62nd anniversary of Nigerian Independence stating that the country was capable of overcoming her present challenges with the election of pragmatic and tested leaders in the 2023 elections.
According to the Yoruba leader, โthe country is already making a visible progress in governance especially in building the countryโs democratic structure and I urge that all hands to be on deck to improve on the present achievements of the current government so that we can together build Nigeria of our dreams. โ
Dr. Adetunji advised political leaders โnot to see leadership as a title but as a clarion call to be responsible and responsive to the preferences and needs of the people that voted them to the leadership positionโ.
He admonished the youths to shun violence and continue to serve as instruments of national development, unity, cohesion and progress for their fatherland assuring them of a secured future with the election of the best among the candidates.
