A 68-year-old man was rescued by the Oyo State Fire Service on Sunday after he accidentally fell into a well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone.
The incident occurred at Mobolorunduro Mosque, located on Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, in Ibadan Southwest Local Government Area.
According to a statement by Adebayo Akinwande, Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform, the distress call was received at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
“Firefighters, led by ACFS Adedeji, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the man had fallen into a deep well while trying to recover his lost phone,” the statement read.
Using appropriate safety equipment and following standard procedures, the rescue team successfully brought the man out of the well alive.
He was then handed over to his family for further medical attention.
Akinwande attributed the incident to a lack of awareness about the dangers of entering wells without proper training and equipment.
