Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, will fly the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) flag in the 2027 election.
He emerged as the presidential candidate of the NDC at the close of the sale of Expression of Interest Forms. He was the only aspirant who bought the form but would still go through screening which obviously would be a mere formality.
For other elective positions, the party has extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms by one week.
This development means aspirants seeking tickets for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly seats have an extra one week to collect and submit forms.
Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the National Secretary of NDC, said the earlier deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, had been shifted to 12 midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
According to him, the extension did not affect the presidential race, as the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the office of President had officially closed.
Meanwhile, the screening of aspirants who purchased and completed their forms will begin on Tuesday, May 19, and end on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
NDC said collection and return of Nomination Forms for screened and cleared aspirants would commence on May 20 and close on May 26, 2026.
Prompt News Online reports that Peter Obi defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC on May 4, 2026.
He dumped the ADC alongside a former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is likely to be vice presidential candidate to Obi in the 2027 election.
